After completing a Foundation Art & Design course, I went on to graduate in 1996 with a degree in Ceramics & Glass. I then promptly got lost in the world of work and didn't pick up a pencil or brush again for another 20 years - when I re-discovered my love of drawing and painting at a local evening class. After dabbling with watercolours - my art tutor suggested I might be better able to achieve the level of detail I wanted in my work through coloured pencils. I bought my first pack of Faber Castell Polychromos pencils and have been hooked ever since. I love the control that they offer, the range of textures that can be portrayed and the painterly effect that can be achieved (without the mess of paints!). I was delighted to find a whole society of like-minded colour pencil artists through UKCPS.
My work focuses mainly on portraits of people and pets - I enjoy the challenge of trying to capture not just a good likeness of the subject matter - but also something of their character. I draw for my own pleasure as well as undertaking bespoke portrait commissions for family, friends and clients.
I'm a member of the Avoncroft Arts Society where I attend a weekly art class. I love to attend courses and workshops to continually improve my technique and understanding of this fabulous medium. I live in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire - with my partner and our beautiful golden cocker spaniel, Milly.
