Karen Coulson UKCPS Silver

I am a professional coloured pencil artist and tutor specialising in wild and domestic animal portraits. I live with my family on the edge of the New Forest in Romsey, Hampshire.

Over the years my work has become very detailed and I enjoy the challenge of trying to draw every feather or strand of hair/fur. I use a variety of pencils and I usually work on coloured mount board.

I exhibit with the UKCPS (United Kingdom Coloured Pencil Society) in their Annual International Exhibition and The World of Coloured Pencil Exhibition at the Cumberland Pencil Museum, Keswick. In 2007 I achieved silver signature status and I was awarded "Highly Commended" at both exhibitions.

In 2009 I qualified as a tutor. I now run coloured pencil workshops for my local libraries and for small private groups of up to 12 people.

Twice a year I work at the Cumberland Pencil Museum in Keswick running free demonstrations/workshops and all day workshops for which charges apply using Derwent Pencils.

I also exhibit in various exhibitions at Hilliers Arboretum, Romsey and with MIWAS (Marwell International Wildlife Art Society) , Whiteley Art Society and Romsey Art Group.

I also have my work in a little tiny gallery in Lymington, Hants called “Karina’s” in Quay Street.
