I'm originally from Hertfordshire and moved to Norfolk in 1990, in 2010 I moved across the border into Suffolk and I'm now lucky enough to live alongside the river Waveney in the small market town of Beccles.
Over the last 20 years I built my reputation as a bird carver, combining my love for watching and photographing birds into pieces of art, carving in wood, texturising and then painting in acrylics to replicate, as near as possible, the real birds. I started working full-time in 2012 after losing my job and have managed to earn my living doing what I love since, as well as several magazine articles here and overseas, a carving manual and EBook the pinnacle was winning a small business award in 2014 from entrepreneur Theo Paphitis.
In September last year I made the decision to rest the carving for a while and decided to diversify into another medium, hence the change to working in coloured pencils. I bought a cheap set of pencils from WH Smiths, about £7 for a small set, and did my first coloured pencil drawing portrait of an "Eagle Owl" which sold within the week, which give me great impetus to continue on. In the 5 months since starting I've now completed approximately 20 drawings and stuck to what I know best, birds! in the last week I've had prints done of 10 pieces of my work which enables me to bring down the costs and more affordable to customers wishing to buy my work. My aims for the future are to improve the quality and complexity of my work, so watch this space!.
