Born in Hull in 1947, as a child I enjoyed drawing and painting (what child doesn’t?), and I have always enjoyed looking at other people’s paintings and drawings in galleries or illustrations in books. In recent years I’ve been able to spend time trying various types of art using various media. I particularly like using watercolour, pen and ink and coloured pencil. I find coloured pencils easier to use than paint for botanical drawing. I seem to have better control with them. I am very impressed by drawings done by many very skilled and imaginative members of the UKCPS.
I have tried a variety of brands of coloured pencils and types of paper, mainly Caran d’Ache, Derwent Studio and Derwent Coloursoft on Bristol board, smooth cartridge paper, or HP watercolour paper.
